Q. What do I do if there are no pellets in the firepot?

A. Check the hopper to ensure it contains dry Barbeque grade pellets in the grill.

Always start the grill with the control knob set at the start position.

If this is the initial startup of the grill, it will take a few extra minutes to ignite, as the auger itself fills with pellets.

The Auger is not turning.

Check for pellets or other material jamming the auger. Clean out the entire hopper and the auger shaft assembly.

Please go to our web site www.SawtoothPelletGrills.com for instructional videos on how remove the auger motor and shaft.

After reassembling the auger assembly. Start the grill following the standard ignition steps and verify the auger shaft is turning. If the Auger shaft does not turn after cleaning.

  • Remove the Hopper’s rear panel
  • Unhook the yellow wire from the auger motor.
  • Unhook the red wire from the igniter.
  • Hook the red wire from the igniter into the auger motor.
  • Plug the unit back into power and turn on the grill.
  • If the motor turns, the control panel needs to be replaced.
  • If it does not turn, the motor needs to be replaced.

Please contact your local dealer for further assistance in ordering replacement parts.

Q. What do I do if my grill will not ignite?

A. Confirm that the blue light on the control panel turns on when the start button is pushed. If the blue light does not appear:

  • The wire to the igniter may be loose.
  • Remove the back of the Hopper.
  • Un-plug each wire one at a time and verify they are corrosion free and reattach them. (If there is corrosion on the plug, clean it with a piece of 80 grit sandpaper and apply electrical connector grease to the tab.)
  • Reattach the back of the hopper and plug the unit back in.
  • Go through the normal start up sequence.
  • Always start you grill with the control knob set at the start position.
  • Ensure the firepot is clean and free of debris, before every use.
  • Confirm that the igniter gets hot. It should turn bright red.

Remove all of the internal components except the fire pot and fire grate and run the grill through the standard ignition steps. If the igniter does not get hot follow these steps to trouble shoot the issue.

  • Turn the power switch off and unplug the grill.
  • Remove the back of the Hopper.
  • Disconnect all of the wires from the igniter and check them for corrosion and reconnect them. (If there is corrosion on the plug clean it with a piece of 80 grit sand paper and apply electrical connector grease to the tab.)
  • Unplug the Yellow wire from the Auger motor.
  • Unplug the red wire from the igniter
  • Plug the yellow wire into the plug on the igniter.
  • Run through the start up sequence again to see if the igniter works.
  • If so, a new control panel is needed.
  • If not, a new igniter is needed.

Unclip the yellow from the igniter and reconnect the plugs together to their correct location. Please contact your local dealer for further assistance in ordering replacement parts.

Q. How do I start up my grill during the cold winter months?

A. Many users cook year round with their smoker. In warmer weather your grill is designed to easily reach 150+degrees in a minimum of 30 minutes. As a safety feature your grill is designed to shut down and give an ER-2 error on the display if it is not able to accomplish this. In colder climates this can be a challenge as temperatures start dropping below 40F.

By following these simple instructions you will be able to enjoy the use of your grill year round regardless of the weather.

From a cold start:

Method 1:

  • Open lid and remove grates and drip tray.
  • Slide heat shield to the left to gain access to the firebox.
  • Remove any ash left in firebox from previous use.
  • Replace heat shield over fire box.
  • Replace drip tray and cooking grates.
  • Close lid
  • Press the start button.
  • Press and hold the prime button for 60 seconds.

Method 2:

  • Open lid and remove grates and drip tray.
  • Slide heat shield to the left to gain access to the firebox.
  • Remove any ash left in firebox from previous use.
  • Add ½ cup of pellets (about a hand full) to the firebox around the igniter.
  • Replace heat shield over fire box.
  • Replace drip tray and cooking grates.
  • Close lid
  • Press the start button.

From this point the grill will be able to reach the desired cooking temperature regardless of the weather.   It should be noted that it will take more time to reach set temps in colder weather and pellet usage will be higher.

Q. What do I do if the fan on my grill is not working?

A. Remove the rear panel of the Hopper and check to make sure both wires are plugged into the fan. Un-plug each wire one at a time and verify they are corrosion free and reattach them. (If there is corrosion on the plug clean it with a piece of 80 grit sand paper and apply electrical connector grease to the tab.)
Run through the start up sequence again to see if the fan works. If the fan still does not work.

  • Take the yellow wire off of the auger motor.
  • Take the blue wire off of the fan.
  • Plug the yellow wire into the fan and turn the grill on. If the fan starts the control panel needs to be replaced.

If the fan does not run the fan is needs to be replaced.
Please contact your local dealer for further assistance in ordering replacement parts.

Q. What do I do if my thermometer is not working?

A. Calibration of your Thermometer

Place the thermometer into boiling water. (The thermometer should read 212 degrees.)
Turn the adjustment screw on the back of the thermometer to increase/decrease the temperature to 212.

Grease and debris can build up on the probe and prevent it from reading accurately.

Clean the probe with soapy warm water and try the thermometer again.

Please contact your local dealer for further assistance in ordering replacement parts.

Run through the start up sequence.
Make sure all of the plugs on the back of the Control Panel are plugged in and corrosion free.

If none of these steps resolve the problem a new control panel is needed. Please contact your local dealer for further assistance in ordering replacement parts.
